Trump’s Tax Threat: US Warns Britain Could Be Hammered With 100% Tariffs in Tech Giant Row

DONALD TRUMP’S threat to hammer Britain with a 100 per cent import tariff is no bluff, a top US trade official has warned.

US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer confirmed the administration is dead serious about punishing the UK over its controversial digital services tax on American tech giants.

The British tax, introduced in 2020, applies a 2 per cent levy on global revenues exceeding £500 million for Silicon Valley behemoths like Google, Apple, and Meta. The tax crackdown is expected to rake in £800 million for the Treasury.

Trump first fired a warning shot in June, threatening European nations with severe tariffs if they implemented or maintained taxes targeting US firms.

While Washington has not yet pulled the trigger on the punishing trade hit, Greer stressed the White House is completely serious about enforcing trade policies to protect American companies from discrimination.

Greer revealed that constructive dialogue is still ongoing with UK trade officials, making it clear Washington wants the UK to negotiate the removal of the tax, just as other nations have done.
